Practical Information

  • Climate and Clothing: Mongolia has continental climate with 4 seasons.  The climate throughout most of Mongolia , including the capital city of Ulaanbaator, is continental, which means that the summers are generally very short, on average, the hottest months of the year are July and August, during which time the daily high temperatures will generally hover in the mid 70’s.  Temperatures will reach the lower 80’s on occasion, but this is as hot as it gets.  The nighttime temperatures during these months will generally drop to the upper 40’s and lower 50’s.  As Mongolian weather is very unpredictable, it is safe to bring both the warm and light clothes. In case of rain, you may also bring rain clothes.
  • Local currency: Mongolian currency is called Tugrik (₮). 1USD equals around 2500 tugrik.
  • Official language: Official language of Mongolia is Mongolian. English can be used at hotels and restaurants.
  • Local time: Standard Time is UTC + 8. During Daylight Saving Time UTC/GMT + 9. This includes Ulaanbaatar which is the capital of Mongolia.
  • Electricity: Electricitya in Mongolia is 220 – 240 Volts. Primary socket types are Europlug and Schuko. Please bear in mind that you will need a converter if your appliances do not fit the requirements mentioned above. 
  • Health: No vaccination is required.
  • Business Hours: Government officials (e.g., immigration) work from 08:30 to 12:30 and from 13:30 to 17:30 (Monday to Friday). Banks open from 09:00 to 17:00. Department stores open around 10:00, and close between 19:00 to 21:00.
